Cool off from the high temperatures in Marion County this summer by enjoying a scoop (or a few) of ice cream. We’ve put together a list of great places to visit if you’re looking to get out of the heat and indulge your sweet tooth.

South Pittsburgh

Dixie Freeze

Open since 1948, this diner offers banana splits, soft serve ice cream, shakes, old-fashioned malts, and floats. A couple of their menu standouts include a float with your choice of root beer, Coke, Dr. Pepper, or Sprite and a Brown Derby, soft serve ice cream dipped in a hard chocolate shell. Check out this local spot from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The Sweet Spot

Serving ice cream, milkshakes, splits, and sundaes, The Sweet Spot uses Blue Bell ice cream to make a variety of delicious treats. A few of their flavors include cotton candy, salted caramel, cookies and cream, rainbow sherbet, and rocky road. You can choose from a long list of toppings to customize your order. Stop by this shop from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday. 

Jasper

Jo Jo’s Scoops & Sprinkles

Jo Jo’s Scoops & Sprinkles has options for everyone with 32 ice cream flavors, Italian ice, shaved ice, and more. Their menu features an old-fashioned banana split, and more than 50 toppings you can add to your ice cream or Italian ice. They’re open from 3 to 9 p.m. on Monday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. 

Whitwell

Whitwell Dairy Bar

This local spot has plenty of sweet treats with ice cream shakes, banana splits, and your choice of a hot fudge, caramel, pineapple, strawberry, or cherry sundae. Guests can enjoy their ice cream at one of the restaurant’s outdoor tables. Stop by for a sweet treat from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
