Hales Bar Dam is well-known for its haunted history, earning a feature from “Ghost Adventures” on the Travel Channel. Construction on Hales Bar Dam, the first multipurpose dam on the Tennessee River, began in 1905 and completed in 1913. However, complications continued to arise with the foundation and leaking issues. Hales Bar Dam was shut down, and Nickajack Dam, a new, safely-constructed dam, was built six miles downstream in 1967.

Due to legends of a Native American curse and people dying from the collapse of a tunnel under the dam, some say Hales Bar Marina is haunted to this day. If you want to learn more about the haunted history of Hales Bar Dam, you can go on a ghost tour or a haunted experience hosted by Hales Bar Resort & Marina.

The marina doesn’t just offer outdoor activities and ghost tours. Dam Whiskey Co. is a distillery producing Dam Whiskey, Dam Straight Bourbon, Dam Vodka, and Dam Moonshine. The distillery is currently working on opening its location at Hales Bar.
