South Pittsburg American Legion Honors Locals at Veterans Day Luncheon
The South Pittsburg American Legion hosted a luncheon honoring three Marion County veterans on Nov. 11 at American Legion Post 62. Those honored were: Jerry Case, Navy, Petty Officer 1st Class (deceased); Jimmy Wigfall, Army, Sergeant (deceased); and Ken Jordan, Air National Guard, State General.
The luncheon, sponsored by Colonial Chemical and Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, was a way to pay tribute to the local legends who fought for their country. Mayor David Jackson, Post 62 Member George Ison, American Legion Commander Bill Stuart, and President of Colonial Chemical David Anderson, Jr. gave speeches honoring the veterans and presented awards. Colonial Chemical also honored the veterans working at their plant, many of which were in attendance.
“Veterans give so much for the country and Americans,” Bill Stuart said. “It’s the land of the free because of the brave, the ones who have sacrificed, fought, and even died for our country. It’s important not only to thank them for their service on Veterans Day, but also every day.”
The South Pittsburg American Legion places importance on honoring veterans in the community and thanking them for their service. Every year, they typically honor two veterans. Due to COVID-19, they were unable to host the luncheon the past couple of years, making them grateful for the opportunity to honor three of Marion County’s veterans at this year’s luncheon.
