Whitwell Sees the Needle Move on Water and Sewer Expansion
The northern part of Marion County’s development ambitions have been hampered by water and sewer infrastructure limitations in recent years. Arguably, the most notable among those limitations has been the absence of a sewer system option on the southeast side of TN Highway 28. However, current measures will soon change that dynamic as work begins to bore the sewer pipe under Highway 28 adjacent to the practice field near Whitwell Elementary School.
“This has been a long time coming,” Whitwell Mayor Jim Nunley continued, “We’ve been trying for this for the past four years.” Finally, much of the area around Whitwell and Powells Crossroad has benefitted from a renewed recognition of development with infrastructure. In what might be a cart-before-the-horse gamble, Prologue, started by Whitwell native Dwight Bryant, showed an opportunity for growth along a largely unused stretch of Valley View Highway, which runs parallel with Highway 28.
