Fall 2023 Activities in Marion County

As the leaves change and the temperature starts cooling down, there are exciting fall events happening in Marion County! Whether you’re looking for a laid-back arts and crafts activity or a scary haunted house, be sure to check out our events round-up. 

South Pittsburg

Fun with Royal Icing: Halloween Treats with Shannon Van Dusen
Thursday, Oct. 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

At Arts in the Burg, you can kick off the fall season by learning how to decorate Halloween-themed sugar cookies using royal icing. This beginner-friendly class is instructed by Lodge Cast Iron associate product & test kitchen manager Shannon Van Dusen.

Note: Children must be 9 or older to attend, and students between the age of 9 and 18 must be accompanied by an adult. 

Sugar Skull Mini Cakes and "Boos": Cake Decorating + BYOB at Arts in the Burg
Thursday, Oct. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Arts in the Burg will also host a mini Sugar Skull cake decorating class. In the class, participants will make and color royal icing and use it to decorate their cakes. The instructor for the class is Kristy Campbell, who has been decorating cakes for 30 years and managed Publix bakeries for almost a decade. 

Note: You must be 21 or older to participate.

All American Lumberjack Show
October 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Marion County Park will host an All American Lumberjack Show with entertainment for the entire family including interactive lumberjack camp, logroll, axe throw, chain saw carving giveaway, and so much more. 

Jasper

Marion County 4-H Chili Cook-Off
October 14, 4-8 p.m.

Think you’re a good judge of food? Check out the Marion County 4-H Chili Cook-Off, where individuals and organizations from all over the county will compete for the title of best chili!

Marion County High School Interact Haunted House

Saturday, Oct. 21, 7-10 p.m.

Thrill seekers can attend a haunted house put on by Marion County High School Interact, a school club dedicated to giving back and helping others. You don’t want to miss this experience called “Horrorwood: The Sequel”. 

Joshua K Jennings Jack-O-Lantern Jamboree

Saturday, Oct. 28, 3-8 p.m

This free, family-friendly event will be on the square in Jasper. Attendees can enjoy trunk or treat, food, games, and a petting zoo. Don’t forget to wear your most creative costume because the best-dressed person in different age groups will win a prize!

Whitwell

Ketner's Mill Country Arts & Crafts Fair
Oct. 21-22

At this fair, you’ll find fun for the whole family, including arts and crafts, southern-style foods, and live music. This isn’t your normal county fair – there will be unique entertainment such as craft demonstrations from blacksmiths, woodworkers, and other artisans, as well as a farm animal petting zoo, and views of the old mill churning out freshly ground cornmeal.
