Family-Friendly Spring Break Activities in Marion County

For Marion County schools, Spring Break is coming up on April 1-5. Spring weather and a week out of school are the perfect combination for quality family time. If you’re struggling to come up with a kid-friendly itinerary to occupy your time during the break, check out our list!

Outdoor Activities

For an easy 3.2 mile loop hiking trail, visit the Little Cedar Mountain trail in Jasper. This classic, kid-friendly route offers scenic views including a pond and mountain overlook. According to AllTrails, this trail takes about an hour and twenty minutes to complete and is next to the Tennessee River shoreline and Nickajack Lake. 

If you’re looking to set up camp, either with tents or a recreational vehicle (RV), spend time with the family at Marion County Park. Located at the Nickajack Reservoir, this campground has a boat ramp, recreational activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing, as well as camping sites. The park offers pavilions and a stage that can be rented, free of charge for Marion County residents.

Educational Activities 

Marion County offers several hands-on learning opportunities for families to enjoy. The South Pittsburg Heritage Museum gives a look into the structures, land and people that have made up South Pittsburg over the years. Visitors will find historic documents, old photos, cast iron, and more. The museum is open to the public free of charge on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon or by appointment on other days. 

In Whitwell, explore the history of the local coal mining industry at the Marion County Coal Miners Museum. You’ll get to discover photographs, artifacts and more that have been passed down for generations. The museum is open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
