Marion County Health Department Offers Many Services to Support A Healthy Community

The Marion County Health Department plays a central role in protecting and improving the health of local residents through prevention, education and direct clinical services. As part of the Tennessee Department of Health, the department delivers state-supported public health programs at the local level, ensuring Marion County families have access to essential care close to home.

From routine immunizations to maternal health support, the Health Department focuses on services that strengthen the community’s overall well-being. Core offerings include:

  • Immunizations for children and adults, including required school vaccines and seasonal flu shots

  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition services, offering supplemental foods, breastfeeding support and nutrition counseling

  • Family planning services, including annual exams and contraceptive care

  • Communicable disease testing and treatment, including sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing

  • Vital records assistance, such as birth and death certificates

  • Child health services, including well-child exams and developmental screenings

  • Health education and outreach, addressing topics like tobacco cessation, chronic disease prevention and emergency preparedness

  • CHANT (Community Health Access and Navigation in Tennessee), a free and voluntary care coordination program that helps pregnant and postpartum individuals, children ages 0–21, and children with special healthcare needs connect with medical and community resources

  • Dental services for adults and children, including exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, preventive education, and emergency dental care

These services are designed not only to treat illness, but to prevent it. By offering low-cost or income-based care, the department helps remove financial barriers that often delay treatment. Early screenings, vaccinations and preventive education reduce long-term healthcare costs and improve quality of life for families across the county.

“The Marion County Health Department is committed to meeting people where they are and no one is turned away,” said Haley Colvin. “Our goal is to ensure every resident has access to the resources and support they need to live a healthier life. We are committed to the health in our community, and that means education, prevention, and partnership are key.”

In addition to clinical care, the department serves as a trusted resource during public health emergencies, coordinating response efforts and communicating timely, accurate information to residents. Whether addressing seasonal illness trends or preparing for severe weather events, staff work closely with local partners to safeguard community health.

Accessible, prevention-focused and community-driven, the Marion County Health Department remains a cornerstone of local public health, supporting healthier families today and building a stronger Marion County for tomorrow.
